History of First Baptist Church of Ronda, Inc.

First Baptist Church of Ronda was constructed on June 24, 1893 in E.A. Womble's Work Shop, Ronda, North Carolina. At this meeting, Elder R.W. Wooten was elected moderator and W.R. Bradshaw, Church Clerk. The following brethern and sisters presented letters of dismissal from other churches and became charter members: N.E. Parlier, Alice Hickerson, R.G. Hickerson, ,C.C. Hickerson, R.W. Wooten, Mrs. M.P. Wooten, and Caroline Shew.

A wood frame church was built on the present site in 1893. Charter members and others in the community furnished supplies and labor. J.E. Green was elected as the first pastor of First Baptist Church of Ronda on August 26, 1893. Mrs. Alice Felts was the first candidate for Baptism. R.W. Wooten, a charter member and founder, who died in 1895, was the first death from the church membership.

The church remained as first constructed until the early 1920's. At that time three Sunday School rooms were added, the building underpinned, a furnace installed, and the church painted. On July 10, 1955 a groundbreaking ceremony was held to build a new church facility. The first service in the new church building was August 1956, with 119 persons present. A new piano and Hammond organ were purchased in 1958. In March 1963, the church debt was paid and a special note burning service was held on May 5, 1963.
