Objective:

The main objective of Rotary is service in the community, in the workplace and throughout the world. Rotarians develop community service projects that address many of today's most critical issues, such as children at risk, poverty and hunger, the environment, illiteracy and violence. They also support programs for youth, educational opportunities and international exchanges for students, teachers and other professionals and vocational and career development. The Rotary motto is Service Above Self.

Volunteer work programs and volunteer assistance for community organizations has become an integral part of club service. The Rotary Club of New Albany assists programs such as bell ringing during the Christmas season, Meals on Wheels during Thanksgiving, Memorial Day events for soldiers and veterans and in 1993,  the first Rotary Toast was held. Every year a leading citizen in the community is honored at a formal dinner in his or her honor.

From its inception in 1915 to today, the New Albany Rotary Club has served the community and remained dedicated to the ideals and purposes of Rotary International. Since the New Albany Rotary Club was charted in 1915, over 32,000 Rotary Clubs have been chartered throughout the world. The New Albany Rotary Club is old in years, but in terms of spirit, energy and service, the Rotary Club of New Albany is youthful and vigorous.

The year was 1915 and the town of New Albany, Indiana was expanding quickly with the wealth being generated from the booming riverboat shipping trade. Along the shores of the Ohio River in this South Central Indiana town local businessmen established the Rotary Club of New Albany. The Rotary Club of New Albany was welcomed as the 194th Rotary Club worldwide.

Rotary club membership represents a cross-section of the New Albany's business and professional men and women. The world's Rotary clubs meet weekly and are nonpolitical, nonreligious, and open to all cultures, races, and creeds.
