Rotary Club Of Stone Mountain

Mission:

To distinguish the Rotary Club of Stone Mountain from other top clubs in District 6900 by consistently supporting the Object of Rotary through projects in each of the four avenues of service: By eagerly extending the hand of fellowship: and by actions demonstrating our commitment to the Rotary ideal of "Service Above Self". Our members are actively involved in the local community with programs and projects in the city of Stone Mountain and surrounding areas. Realizing that the boundary of the world's borders are ever growing, Stone Mountain Rotarians are also involved in humanitarian and educational projects in India, Central America, Europe, Asia, Africa - literally all over the world. Stone Mountain Rotarians can be counted on and called on. They honor commitment, value integrity, unselfishly render "Service Above Self".

About the Club:

The Rotary Club of Stone Mountain was originally chartered on May 12, 1965 with the charter presentation at a meeting held at the Plantation Restaurant on Memorial Drive in Stone Mountain on June 18 1965. On that date there were twenty-nine members in the club. The official meeting day and time was set as Tuesday, 12:15 p.m., which day and time is still being observed. The club was originally known as the Rotary Club of East DeKalb and was sponsored by the Rotary Club of Decatur. The East DeKalb name was changed to the Rotary Club of Stone Mountain on June 11, 1981. Today, the Rotary Club of Stone Mountain meets at the Smokerise Golf and Tennis Club, Stone Mountain, Georgia, Tuesday 12:15 p.m.

The Rotary Club of Stone Mountain is rich in tradition with a longstanding history of involvement in the local and international communities. Our commitment to service was established as a result of the strong leadership of our Charter officers and directors: President Frank H. Merritt, Vice President Edwin R. Friese, Secretary-Treasurer Thomas T. Tidwell, Sergeant-at-Arms Joe Lorenz, Directors Fred S. Baker, L. Clark Brand, George M. McGinnis, B. Blake Perry and Edgar G. Tucker. Currently there is one charter member actively involved in the club and that is Past President (President Emeritus) Doug McCurdy. A member chosen as the Rotarian of the Year is awarded the "Frank H. Merritt" Award in recognition of the contribution of time, talent, and resources by a Stone Mountain Rotarian during the current year.
