Saint Michael Church

60 Liberty Street
860-599-5580

More than 140 years ago, a group of courageous Catholics began the marvelous work of building a church, a sign to the entire community of a living faith. Mostly immigrants possessing few earthy goods, they still were strong in their hope, generous in their spirit of sacrifice, and far sighted in their vision. Other generations have followed, each with the same enduring qualities. We are their heirs. In gratitude and pride, we cannot be less committed.

Our church has served our community well. Its walls have witnessed some wonderful happenings - the Sacraments of Initiation, the weddings, our attendance at the Holy Sacrifice - joyful events, all. Then, too, were those occasion when we brought a friend or relative here in solemn fashion for a final visit as they left us to return to the Lord.

Parishioners can reminisce about their personal attachments to the venerable building, recalling the many pleasant experiences of the past, especially those periods of blessing when the Lord seemed so near. They can recall some friends, now passed away, who always sat at a particular place during Sunday Mass. They can remember the many priests who celebrated Mass, men who brought comfort at an opportune time, perhaps even one who officiated at their wedding, baptized their children or who brought Communion to an ill relative. They can recall the devoted teachers, many of them Sisters, who labored here endeavoring to instill a respect for God and country in their young charges - women (and a few men) whose legacy of imparting a sound education will not be forgotten.

Saint Michael Church has helped us to love, serve and worship the Lord. We are thankful for its blessings. Recently, we completely renovated our church to make it more comfortable but also more beautiful and inspiring. Our school has also undergone extensive renovation and recently we opened a new state-of-the art technology center in the former convent building, now the annex for our school.
