About Us:

The current building, a Gothic style church, was dedicated November 23, 1949 when Rev W. C. Davis was the pastor. This church is the third structure in the congregation's proud history. The bell is the only preserved artifact remaining and hangs in the brick bell tower. As a result of an outpouring of generous contributions, the building has several notable features, including a white marble baptismal font, oak pews, and a wooden altar. Among the most outstanding features in the church is a series of richly-colored stained glass windows purchased by parishioners in Germany after World War II. The church houses six classrooms, a nursery, and a fellowship hall. Parishioners have recently completed building a beautiful Pavilion behind the church for church and community activities.

The Lutheran faith was founded in Germany by Martin Luther. The faith found its foothold in Parrottsville because of the many Germans and Scandinavians who moved to the area from Pennsylvania and the Shanandoah Valley.

Today, Salem Lutheran Church has about 100 active members. Members are civic minded, and many are former members of the armed services. Members are involved in groups like the Ruritans, Breadbasket for the needy, Gentle Touch Ministries, and Habitat for Humanity. The church's Dove Tree program provides gifts to poor children. Church members host a community-wide Widow's Dinner and provide food baskets for needy families. There is a strong value that community life is important.
