Mission Statement

After many surveys filled out by parents, students and teachers, draft statements developed by the Leadership committee and fine-tuned by the Site Council; a new Sequoia Middle School Mission Statement has been developed. The intent was to more clearly capture the essence of Sequoia, to develop a statement that reflected the advent of a standards-based curriculum and to highlight the role that parents and teachers, together, have in successful student achievement. The following is our new Mission Statement, voted on by the Site Council, February 26, 2002:

Sequoia is committed to a high level of academic achievement, supported by students, parents and staff. A rigorous standards-based curriculum, enriched by a comprehensive elective program, defines Sequoia as an Academics Plus School.

Goals for student achievement include:

Standards of behavior that promote academic success and good citizenship.
Communication that facilitates developmental growth and accountability.
Classroom expectations that foster respect and appreciation for individuals and cultures
