South Winnfield Baptist Church

History :

August 1925, the church was organized by Bro. and Sis. J.R. Hendrix with the assistance of Rev.'s W.C. Hand, Joel Durham, and J.M. Canes. During this meeting the church was named South Winnfield Baptist Church. This meeting was held under some oak trees. Later they met every other Sunday in the Methodist Church in Winnfield.

Later in 1925 they met in a tabernacle. During the first revival, 12 were saved and baptized in the Dugdemona River. At this time the church's membership was 19.

In 1930, the church's membership grew to 51.

On November 10, 1938, the first building was completed and dedicated with a membership of 56.

On August 20, 1950, the sanctuary and first parsonage was dedicated with 80 members.

In 1953, total membership grew to 114, with a Sunday School enrollment of 160.

On October 1960, a new parsonage was built. Rev. Edward Smith and family were the first to live in the parsonage. Also, God blessed our membership over the years. Our membership grew to 233 with 132 enrolled in Sunday School.

In September of 1961, the church was bricked and 2,000 square feet of floor space was added.

On May 22, 1962, the South Winnfield Baptist Church filed the Articles of Incorporation with the State of Louisiana. Five members of the church were elected to serve on the Board of Trustees; they were Bro.'s Troy Frederick, Edwin L. Poole, A.L. Shirley, Jr., Willie Frederick, and Ferrel Jarnagin.

In 1967, church membership grew to 305, with 161 enrolled in Sunday School.

In October of 1978, the church membership was 241 with 91 enrolled in Sunday School.

In October of 1984, the church grew to a membership of 255 with 103 enrolled in Sunday School.

In October of 1993, membership of the church was at 214 with 77 enrolled in Sunday School.

In 1999, church membership was 237 with a Sunday School enrollment of 88.

On May 7, 2000, land on the Country Club Road was dedicated for a future facility with more room that would be constructed in the near future.

On February 18, 2001, the church held it's first service in it's new worship facility on the Country Club Road.
Today our current membership is 384 with a Sunday School enrollment of 181.
