Our History:

The Southeast Volusia Historical Society was chartered as a corporation not for profit under the Laws of the State of Florida on September 2, 1982.  The charter number of the corporation is 764802.  The following are the purposes for which the SEVHS was organized:

 - To promote a formal means by which individuals interested in historical studies in the Southeast Volusia area may congregate for their mutual benefit,
 - To promote the continuing study of the cultures of the Southeast Volusia areafrom ancient times to the present,
 - To bring to the attention of the general public and appropriate governmental agencies the continuing importance of preserving historical sites within the Southeast Volusia area,
 - To disseminate information on historical aspects of the Southeast Volusia area through periodic, regularly scheduled meetings of the Society, and through
 - such special events and other activities as the Society may consider properly suited to its objectives,
 - To cooperate with other associations; the City of New Smyrna Beach, the City of Edgewater, the Town of Oak Hill, other governmental entities; and the citizens of the area to establish historical museums and/or exhibits for public enjoyment,
 - To cooperate with all area organizations that share a common interest in the promotion and preservation of local history.
