The Sterling Volunteer Rescue Squad has been a part of Sterling, VA since 1964.
Here are some interesting facts about us:
Founded in 1964 as the Sterling Park Jaycees’ “Grand Project”, first proposed by John A. Costello, Charter President of the Sterling Park Jaycees
Don Kelly is Charter President, Jake Bukovskey is Charter Captain
First Ambulance was a used ’59 Chevrolet Carryall, housed at Arlyn Black’s Shell Station
Ran 1st call on Feb. 27, 1965, a motor vehicle accident
Purchased first new ambulance, a 1966 Chevy Carryall
Organized Sterling Park Volunteer Fire Department
Moved into first headquarters at 304 N. Sterling Blvd. in November, 1967
May 7, 1968 fire destroys ’59 Carryall Ambulance
Safety Center dedicated on January 7, 1971, housing Sterling Rescue and Sterling Fire, “Finally a headquarters building we’ll never outgrow!”
“Sterling 1” placed in service in 1971, a GMC/Swab Crash Truck- the most advanced piece of equipment in Loudoun County at the time
