Stone Dam United Methodist Church

315 Stone Dam Road
423-639-8283

Tennessee history states that the camp meeting of Stone Dam existed when Ebenezer Church was organized in 1790.  The original Stone Dam United Methodist Church was organized prior to the year 1820.  Around the year 1900, under the leadership of Reverend George Cox, a new church was built and a new cemetery established.  A building program in 1948 yielded six classrooms.  The sanctuary was redecorated in 1953 with pew replacement a part of that renovation.  Stained glass windows were installed in 1968.  The front entrance was redesigned in 1976.  An alcove was built that included restrooms and a new basement entrance.  A fellowship hall was completed in 1984.  It was named "Mutter Hall" in honor of Ronnie and Patsy Mutter, a very special pastor and wife that led the church in many endeavors.  A meditation garden dedicated in memory and honor of J.R. Ripley was sponsored by the Stone Dam Youth and completed in 1995.  In the year 2000, the Ripley Pavilion was started, the parking lot was paved, and a church sign was erected.  All existing roof structures were replaced in 2007.
