Swift Fest in Jonestown was conceived in 2012 as a community effort sponsored by the City of Jonestown and the nearby Balcones Canyonlands National Wildlife Refuge. The City was looking for a way to call attention to the unique phenomenon of the Chimney Swifts' nightly return to their cistern home. With support from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the Friends of Balcones Canyonlands National Wildlife Refuge, they created the unique nature festival that is unlike any other.
