Tappan Elementary School

310 Bennett Avenue
330-296-6721

"We are a community of learners following the path to success, one student, one day, one step at a time."

Tappan Elementary School, serving students in grades one through five, is located in the southeast corner of Ravenna, in a quiet neighborhood within walking distance of downtown. The building was opened in 1952 and was named after the founder of Ravenna, Benjamin Tappan. It was built to replace a ninety-year-old school called Chestnut School, which was located just a few blocks from the current building. A large playground area, including a softball field, provides students with plenty of outdoor space to enjoy.

Tappan Elementary services 215 students and has a teaching staff of twelve teachers, one principal, one secretary and several support staff members. Tappan's curriculum is aligned to the Ohio Academic Content Standards. The goal is for all students to meet and exceed academic expectations. All students participate in academic classes for language arts, mathematics, science and social studies. In addition, exposure to art, music and physical education are integral parts of their weekly schedules. Students with special learning needs are accommodated in the regular classroom, as well as through support services by special education teachers, a speech pathologist and a school psychologist, with other related services provided as needed. A guidance counselor and gifted coordinator also provide services to students. Intervention is provided for those students needing extra support.
