Our History :

1872 - Present

Our first "Meetinghouse" was a small one of hewn logs, with a large open fireplace in one side, as was common in those days.  That was in 1872 on the bluff overlooking Duncan Creek, about 1 1/2 miles northwest of Thaxton.

The next building was a larger one room frame structure at Thaxton on land donated by Dr. M. C. Thaxton and J. D. Warren.  It was built by B. F. Hyde and Sons of Pontotoc in 1889.  One of the building committee, Wm. Boone Dickson, helped and built the pulpit, himself.  This building had a belfry and was used also for a schoolhouse for several years.

In July 1948 the wooden building was torn down and a brick veneer one with four classrooms was started.  The building was completed in August 1948 with the brick being added in 1949.

New pews were installed in 1952 and the building was dedicated debt free on June 29, 1952.  Also in 1952 a pastor's home was built and additional land purchased.  A deep well and a butane gas system was added to the convenience of the church property. The pastorium was paid out in December 1955.

In 1958 a wing was built on the west side of the church, providing a corridor and four more classroms. In 1967 the auditorium was air-conditioned.

During 1968-69 the auditorium was extended 24 feet on the front, a baptistry was installed, and a fellowship hall and restrooms were provided in the rear of the building.

Improvements made to the  the church between 1990 and 1997

1.  Building of a new acitvities building, including a gym, a kitchen, classrooms, and restrooms.
2. Building of a new sanctuary
3. Paving the parking lot

5. Landscaping of the church property.
