The Garden Club of Montclair

60 South Fullerton Avenue
973-746-9614

The Garden Club of Montclair, Inc. was organized in 1926 and incorporated 1950. The Club is affiliated with the Garden Club of NJ and is part of the Central Atlantic Region of National Garden Clubs, Inc.

Garden Club of Montclair activities are carried out by a Board of Trustees and about 25 committees and special appointments. A membership of 256 makes ours the largest garden club in NJ. Activities include both important continuing projects and exciting new projects.

Our mission is to stimulate and educate members and the public in the knowledge and practice of conservation, horticulture, and the artistic use of plant material; enhance the beauty of the Township and the State; sponsor and support projects of an educational character, specifically allied to these purposes; and raise funds by contributions and otherwise in furthering projects toward this mission.

The Club maintains the Avis Campbell Gardens and United Way grounds at 60 S. Fullerton Ave., the Triangle Mall Gardens and fountain areas along Church Street, and supports the Presby Memorial Iris Gardens with volunteer work and donations. Guided tours of the Avis Campbell Gardens, describing nutrient cycles, composting and horticulture, are offered to local school children, scouts and other groups.

For the Annual Tree Survey club members inspect about 600 trees in Montclair's central business districts, reporting their conditions to the Township. The Club's Flowering Tree Memorial Fund helps replace damaged or diseased trees

The Club provides continuing Garden Therapy projects for seniors at St. Vincent's and Little Nursing Homes, Montclair House, the Senior Activities Center, and at Hospice in Glen Ridge.

A Club education program in the schools launched a Junior Garden Club. The Youth help decorate the children's room at the historic Crane House for the Holidays.
