The Odyssey School

3257 Bridle Ridge Lane

The Odyssey School exists to provide a high quality education in a lower and middle school setting for children with above average to exceptional higher level thinking skills who have been diagnosed with dyslexia or other language-related learning differences. Odyssey combines innovative multi-sensory teaching methods, a low student/teacher ratio, small group instruction, and daily periods of tutoring where individualized skill building takes place. Odyssey provides a specialized whole child educational program delivered within a foundation of the four Pillars of kindness, honesty, respect, and hard work. These Pillars are embodied in our efforts to serve our students and the greater community.

Taken from Homer's account of Ulysses' heroic journey from the Trojan War, our name represents the challenging personal journey that each child must undertake in his or her individual road to success. It represents our conviction that through encouragement, mentoring, and a healthy sense of community, our children can learn, excel, and develop the personal character that often blossoms from adversity.

The Odyssey School employs a whole child educational program aimed at teaching students how to utilize their strengths to compensate for their weaknesses. We recognize that our students are often gifted in other areas, and do not fit easily into traditional educational categories.

Odyssey understands that a good education is forged from a partnership between the parents, the school and the child. We believe that within the context of such a partnership each of these promising children is able to learn. We provide a diverse range of multi- sensory methods of reading instruction that are proven by current research to be effective in teaching dyslexic students. We are committed to maintaining a low student/teacher ratio, which allows our children to develop the academic competence that is so imperative and to grow personally in their understanding of dyslexia and its impact on their lives.
