The first white settlement in the Town of Burnett occurred in 1842 by a man with the name of Jewett. Others came to the Town shortly after, leading to the settlement of Burnett Corners around 1843. This community contained two churches, a store, and a blacksmith shop; the first post office was established in 1846.

In 1860, the community of Burnett Junction was settled following the completion of the railroad through the Town. By 1880, the Village contained one church, two general stores, two blacksmiths, two hotels, and a lumber yard.
