About Castleton

Castleton is a picturesque New England town located in Rutland County about 15 miles to the west of Rutland, and about 5 miles east of the New York/Vermont state border. We are a town of over 4,000 friendly and caring people. Castleton is a place where a stranger can feel like family and whose hospitality is second-to-none.

Castleton hosts one of Vermont’s state colleges, Castleton University. Castleton University was founded in 1787, and today belongs to the Vermont State University system. Castleton University offers one of the widest curricula offered anywhere in New England. This is just one of the reasons why Castleton is a part of history.

Castleton is located approximately 5 miles east of the Vermont/New York State Line. We are close to many of Vermont’s major ski resorts, with Killington & Pico approximately 40 minutes to the Northeast via U.S. Rte. 4. Okemo is also nearby, about 40 minutes southeast via VT Rte. 103. Rutland is about 15 miles east of Castleton. We are also only about an hour’s drive from the shopping centers in the Saratoga, New York area.

Castleton also has many businesses and establishments catering to those people who enjoy a slower pace and finer things in life. We’re proud to call Castleton home. Welcome home!
