Trindle Spring Lutheran Church

14 State Road

History :

William Trindle, a Scots-Irish tailor, Indian trader and leader of a fledging community of European settlers deeded land, near the headwaters of a spring named in his honor, to German Lutheran and German Reformed Calvinists for a burial ground in 1765. It was on this ground that a log building was erected for use as a school and a church, which is now known as Trindle Spring Evangelical Lutheran Church.

The original building was replaced by a brick building, constructed in 1823, which served as a Union church for both the Lutheran and Reformed Calvinist congregations. The congregations worshiped together until 1875 when the Reformed Calvinists withdrew. In 1924 an addition was added to the north end of the church. Further expansion occurred in 1952 when and educational annex and social hall were added.

In 1972 Hurricane Agnes caused severe flooding of Trindle Spring which led to the destruction of the church's basement. This accelerated plans for construction of a new church campus across the street from the original building. In 1976 an educational building was completed. This was followed by construction of a fellowship hall, administrative offices, and additional classrooms in 1985. The current sanctuary was dedicated on the first Sunday of Advent in 1993. It is appointed with the original stained glass windows, altar and pulpit. The original church still stands and is used for meeting rooms and offices for New Hope Ministries, a local food bank. The members of the congregation are proud of the congregation's longevity and pray that the Holy Spirit continues to move among us and bless future generations.
