Trinity Lutheran Church
History
Triinity's history began when John Reister deeded 1/4 acre of land in 1764 for a cemetery, school, and small log church to be used by all denominations. The Lutherans referred to it as the High German Lutheran Church.
With only 40 pastors in the U.S. at the time, the congregation had only occasional services in the sparsely settled town of Reisterstown. In 1854, the log church was torn down. Worship services continued in private homes and on August 10, 1855, Trinity was officially accepted as a congregation in the MD Synod.
On January 13, 1867, a two-story church was built and dedicated "To The Triune God." This original church was replaced by our present Sanctuary which was dedicated in June 1907.
The educational building was dedicated on November 24, 1968, and is filled with activity every day.
Trinity significantly expanded its facility on February 10, 2002, when the congregation dedicated the Trinity Life Center, a large fellowship hall expansion to the educational building.
Trinity's Stained Glass Windows
The beautiful windows were installed by the Thomas Wightman Glass Company of Pittsburgh. Mr. Wightman's son married a daughter of this congregation, Susan Russell, and she had a great interest in church windows. Susan commissioned a German artist to design the windows. The colored glass in the windows was imported from Europe and are radiant blends of the congregation as memorials.
The tripod window over the altar, with "Christ in the Garden of Gethsemane," was placed in memory of three pastors: Rev. Jacob Martin, Rev. Christian Lepley, and Rev. George H. Beckley.
The "Morning Window" depicts Jesus as the Good Shepherd. The "Evening Window" depicts Jesus with His arms outreached inviting His children to come and rest. The "West Window" depicts Jesus blessing the little children.
