Twin Oaks Baptist Church

US Highway 412 And State Highway 10 Junction
918-868-3616

In 1962, the Lord showed through a vision, a church where all people regardless  of race or language, could come to worship and fellowship together. Four of the Charter members, (George & Narcie Cochran; Ike & Lou Postoak), through the working of the Holy Spirit, saw a need fo an English & Cherokee Speaking Baptist Church. After much prayer and seeking divine guidance, they went through a period of one year studying God's word and held prayer meetings and service in homes. A council was called to consider the orgnization of a Baptist Church.

The work was started as a mission of Euwasha Baptist Church in Kenwood, Oklahoma, under the leadership of the Rev. Leroy Backwater, Sr, then pastor of Euwasha Baptist Church. Rev. Marvin Sorrells, then the Cherokee Missionary, assisted in organizing the church. The Meetings began March 24, 1963 at the former Postoak Homeplace south of Kansas, Oklahoma. There were 31 Charter Members:

George Cochran, Narcie Cochran, Carolyn Cochran, Sue Cochran, Bobby Cochran,
Ike Postoak, Lou Postoak, George Postoak, Ataloa Postoak, Lush Postoak, Curly Turtle,
Susie Turtle, Charles Turtle, Adam Turtle, Elsie Johnson, Everette Foreman, Effie Foreman, Jennie Tehee, Maxine Nix, Alfred Nix, William Wolf, Marjorine Wolf, Frankie Wolf, Randall Wolf, Ina Cummings, Lena Turtle, Chester Swake, Pearl Swake, Willis Budder, Marvin Budder & John Tehee.

The Church was organized January 25, 1964. The land was donated by Curly Turtle. The first one room building was built at the present site with funds from the Home Mission Board and tithes & love offerings. It was received into the fellowship of the Cherokee Baptist Association of Tahlequah, Oklahoma in 1966.

The educational building was acquired from the First Baptist Church of Kansas, Oklahoma. Since then, the church has expanded with the addition of the Fellowship Hall and the extension of the auditorium. The Pastor's Study and Church Office with the Front Entrance Foyer were completed in 1999.

Since 1963, the Lord has blessed the "Little Church on the Hill", and through the Holy Spirit souls continue to be won. Many Generations have been a part of Twin Oaks and the Lord still continues to bless. Pray that Twin Oaks will continue to seek God's leadership, that souls will continue to be saved and lives will be changed.
