German immigrants moved into the Hildreth area around 1873. The railroad came through the area in 1885, and served the area for many years. It had a huge impact on the development of Hildreth as a town.

Carson Hildreth was a major player in starting the town, and it was incorporated in 1886. In 1907, Hildreth reached a peak population of 603. It now varies between 360 and 400 residents.

Hildreth, Nebraska is located in Franklin County, and is 27 miles south of Kearney. There is a very nice business district, with most services available.

There are 50 blocks of streets within the city limits, all of which are asphalt or concrete.

The city park consists of approximately four acres with many nice shade trees. Some of the features that are in the park are a large swimming pool, lighted baseball field, lighted tennis court, lots of playground equipment, a covered picnic patio and modern public restrooms.
