History:

Virginia City was the capital of the Montana Territory and had a population of 10,000 people during the Gold Rush Era. When gold was struck in Helena, the majority of the inhabitants of Virginia City up and moved to Helena, following their gold fever. As a result, Virginia City was abandoned and remained unaffected by progress, turning it into a treasure itself, as it is now one of the most intact Old West towns in the country. Every summer, Virginia City entertains around 70,000 tourists from around the world!

Founded in 1948, the Virginia City Players Theatre Company performs authentic 19th century melodramas and a varied, vigorous vagary of vivacious vaudeville variety acts in the Virginia City Opera House. The Opera House itself was originally called the Old Stone Barn Theatre, since it was converted from a livery stable into a reproduction of a 19th century theatre!
