Waynesburg Lions Club

Route 21
724-627-8380

The Lions Club of Waynesburg, Pennsylvania was chartered by Lions Clubs International on October 22, 1940 with 25 members. The sponsoring Lions Club was from Washington, Pennsylvania with Lion John Eichelberger as its president. The formal charter banquet was held on Thursday January 9, 1941 in the Fort Jackson Hotel dining room with over 50 in attendance.

The Waynesburg Lions Club was the outgrowth of a group of men who sometime in the late 1930's met at Miliken's Atlantic Service Station on the corner of High and Maiden Streets in Waynesburg. The men sat at the station, shared the day's activities and swapped stories. Each man would try and out due the last story, all of which were unbelievable. The group gave the name "The Lier's Club" to themselves. They had so much fun they decided they should meet once a month for dinner. The East End Restaurant, being only a block from the service station, was selected for the dinners. While there was no formal programs all enjoyed the "club."
