Webb Memorial United Methodist Church

370 State Route 109 North
270-664-2411

History:

The Methodist Church of Clay, Kentucky was organized in 1906 by the Reverend Browder.  For several years services were held in the City Hall, and then moved to the Blackwell Auditorium.  The Blackwell Auditorium was also used for public dances as well as other activities which seemed defiling to the congregation.  The congregation began meeting in what was called the Opera House, then the movie theater.

In 1909 the church purchased a lot on West Elm Street for their first building.  By the fall of 1913, services were being held in the basement and Sunday School was organized.  The first Sunday in July 1915 marked the first service to be held in the main sanctuary. The building was completed, furnished, and paid for by the fall of 1917.

By the late 1980’s the congregation had outgrown the building on West Elm Street.  So, in December 1988 with much prayer, and by God’s grace, a decision was made to build a new facility on Highway 109.  The congregation celebrated its first service in the new church on April 2, 1992, and continues to meet there every Sunday.
