Mission Statement

The West Point Elementary School will provide a positive and safe learning environment that emphasizes academic and social growth for all children.

History

West Point Public School was founded around 1940 to meet the needs of a growing community that relied on the mining industry and the delivery of coal by the Youngstown and Ohio Railroad. It was part of the Beaver Rural School System and served students in grades one through eight. In 1953, a new building was constructed to meet the needs of an expanding student population. With the formation of the Beaver Local School District, West Point was reorganized and housed students only through grade five. A second reorganization resulted in students attending school from kindergarten through grade four. Increased students enrollment required an addition to the main building with modular united added to provide space for a multi-purpose room, title and learning centers, a library and computer center, and classrooms.

Currently: West Point Elementary continues to serve students from kindergarten through grade four. A variety of programs are offered to meet the needs of approximately 200 students: students: general education, Model IV special education, Title I Reading, and an Excel program. Students also participate in Art, Music, and Physical Education. Support services are provided through a guidance counselor, speech pathologist, and school psychologist.
