Wilkerson Christmas Tree Farm

Wilkerson Christmas Tree Farm

The original 58 acre tract of land was purchased by Percy W. Wilkerson on September 24, 1945. During the 1950's the farm served as a polled Hereford cattle farm which had two large draft horses as its main source of power. Most of the food used was grown on the farm with only a limited amount of food derived from retail groceries in the area. The farm did not receive electricity until 1947 as a result of the Rural Electrification Act.

In December 1960, Percy Wilkerson passed away and the farm came under the ownership of his son, Larry M. Wilkerson, who is the current owner of Wilkerson Christmas Tree Farm. Very little farming activity took place on the farm during the 1960's and the farm fell upon disrepair for almost a decade. Early in 1971, Larry and Syble Wilkerson planted their first 3,000 Christmas trees in what is now known as Field #1 on the farm. Throughout the 1970's and 1980's they slowly began to clear the fields that now make up the farm and restored it to it's present state. It is still a work in progress!
In 1997, the Wilkersons purchased an additional 21 acre tract of land that joins the older portion of the farm, bringing the total acreage to around 75 acres. The farm is almost completely maintained by members of the family. It is truly a family operation!
