Mission Statement

The Yucaipa-Calimesa Joint Unified School District is committed to providing a rigorous education that extends the opportunity for all students to achieve success academically, vocationally, and personally. Through a safe and caring environment, students will be prepared to become productive citizens in a democratic society.

About Us

Yucaipa-Calimesa JUSD has been proudly serving students in Yucaipa and portions of Calimesa since 1911, when our first elementary school was opened on California Street as part of the newly formed Yucaipa Elementary School District.  In 1963, the District reorganized as a Joint Unified School District and added instruction for the area's secondary school students, who were previously served by a neighboring school district using a secondary school they built in the 1950's.  That school, which is located on Sixth Street, is still in use today by our students.

YCJUSD students receive a high quality curriculum from some of the best teachers that the state has to offer.  The district's STAR test results regularly exceed those of the county of San Bernardino and, in many instances, those of the state as well. Each school has an active PTA/PTSA or PTSO, and area residents find that the collaboration among parents and school staff has a wonderful, open, small town feel to it.  Students at all sites, including the adult school, follow the same calendar.  The calendar for the current school year, including all holidays, vacation dates, and academic dates, is found under the "Calendars" tab on the left navigation bar on all of our web pages.

Textbooks, curriculum, and assessments  across the district are consistent from school to school.  This is helpful when students move between schools.  Parents can be assured that there won't be learning gaps for their students and that the education that children get at one site is as rigorous as it is in the neighboring schools. As new students enroll in the district, every effort is made to place them in their neighborhood school according to the boundary maps.  If the grade needed is full at the neighborhood school, an alternate school site will be assigned until there is room available at the neighborhood school.

Beginning in 2011-2012, the Competitive Edge Charter Academy (CECA)  operates as a dependent charter school.  CECA is a K-8 International Baccalaureate candidate school.  All California content standards are included in the thematic-based instruction.
