Abigail J. Rao, M.D.is a board-certified stereotactic and functional neurosurgeon with Norton Neuroscience Institute. She earned her medical degree from the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island. While in medical school, Dr. Rao conducted neuroscience research at the National Institutes of Health, through the competitive HHMI-NIH Research Scholars Program. She completed her neurosurgery residency at Oregon Health & Science University in Portland and her fellowship in stereotactic and functional neurosurgery at University of California, Los Angeles. Dr. Rao’s goal is to increase patients’ quality of life and to bring new treatments to patients in Greater Louisville. Functional neurosurgeons primarily treat movement disorders, chronic pain and epilepsy. Dr. Rao has trained extensively in all of these areas and has authored multiple manuscripts describing her research work. Dr. Rao also specializes in peripheral nerve disorders, brain tumors and spinal disease. She aims to offer patients hope, options and education, and strives to treat each patient with the same level of care that she would want for a family member.
