Sara grew up on a ranch near Kadoka, SD and attended BHSU for her undergraduate degree. She received her associate’s degree in nursing from the University of South Dakota’s Rapid City campus and then worked at Hans P. Peterson Memorial Hospital in Philip, SD. She moved back to the Black Hills to work on the medical-surgical and obstetrics units at Spearfish Hospital while finishing her bachelor’s degree in nursing through South Dakota State University (SDSU). Sara obtained her master’s degree in nursing from SDSU in 2003. She has worked at Monument Health Spearfish Clinic since 2004. Sara also provides on-campus medical care to students at Black Hills State University. She is a part of the 100 Women Who Care About Spearfish group and volunteers as a medic at the Special Olympics in Spearfish. Sara enjoys spending time outdoors hiking, fishing, biking, camping and skiing with her husband and 3 children.
