City of Pembroke Pines Gathered to Honor United States Military at Memorial Day Observance Ceremony

Pembroke Pines, FL – (May 31, 2022)  The City of Pembroke Pines residents, guests and friends came together to honor United States Military Veterans, both living and deceased, at the Annual Memorial Day Observance Ceremony on Monday, May 30, 2022 at Donnith H. Fletcher Park located at 7900 Johnson Street in Pembroke Pines.

The two hour program included the Presentation of Colors by the City of Pembroke Pines Police and Fire Department Honor Guards, patriotic music, words from Colonel Pedro Matos and comments from Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz, Pembroke Pines Mayor Frank C. Ortis, community leaders and City Officials.  A solemn wreath placing ceremony to honor and pay tribute to veterans followed. 

Memorial Day is a special day set aside to honor and remember all men and women who have died while serving in the United States Armed Forces. Originally called Decoration Day, Memorial Day was officially declared a National holiday on May 5, 1868 by General John Logan, National Commander of the Grand Army of the Republic.  The Day is now honored every year on the last Monday of the month of May.
