From: The City of Pembroke Pines

As part of the City of Pembroke Pines award winning series Raising Positive Children, parents, grandparents/guardians, educators and youth advocates are invited to experience a very special forum called “Tapping Into Your Parent Superpowers” on Thursday, March 2, 2023 from 6:30 p.m. to 8 pm at the Charles F. Dodge City Center, located at 601 City Center Way.

The special guest speaker is Dr. Laura Cruz, Psychologist and Director of the Student Assistance Program (SAP) for the City of Pembroke Pines Charter Schools, who will share effective strategies and behavioral management skills that can be used at home to help parents deal with behavioral challenges, improve their parent-child relationship, and help children increase their engagement in appropriate behaviors such as paying attention, staying calm in difficult situations and following directions. Dr. Cruz is certified in Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT), is recognized by PCIT International as a trainer and has co-authored a textbook chapter on behavioral parent training.

“Parenting can be the most rewarding, yet most challenging job we’ll ever experience,” said Pembroke Pines Commissioner Iris A. Siple. “Dr. Cruz’s presentation is a powerful and refreshing approach to parenting and will also help us to understand how to equip our children with vital skills that will serve them well for their entire life.”

This is the 11th in a series of presentations hosted by Pembroke Pines Commissioner Iris A. Siple, West Campus Charter School Principal Michael Castellano, the Education Roundtable Forum and the City of Pembroke Pines to call attention to and find solutions for the many issues parents and children face today at home and at school.

The forum will also feature a drumline and choral performance by our talented students.  Those who attend are also invited to take advantage of community resource information that will be available in the lobby.  Admission and parking are free. No Ticket is required. For more information, please call 954-450-1030.
