The City of Pembroke Pines has once again prevailed in the lawsuit brought by the Town of Southwest Ranches over the Town’s effort to have an immigration detention facility built in the Town by Corrections Corporation of America, a company that builds and manages private prisons and detention centers.

The Fourth District Court of Appeals affirmed the jury’s finding that the City was not liable for damages to the Town for Immigrations and Customs Enforcement’s decision not to build the facility.  The City of Pembroke Pines previously prevailed in a lawsuit brought by Corrections Corporation of America over the same issue.

The taxpayers of the Town of Southwest Ranches will now be responsible for paying the attorneys’ fees of both their own attorneys as well the attorneys for the City, a total amount of fees which will likely exceed $2,000,000.
